The NHS Long Term Plan made a commitment to increase the range of alternative and complementary alternative crisis services. Sanctuaries, safe havens, and crisis cafes can provide a more suitable alternative to A&E or hospital admission for many people experiencing mental health crisis.
NHS England are currently consulting on the national strategy for when the NHS Long Term Plan ends in 2024/25. It is anticipated that a focus on alternative to crisis services will continue.
