To Operate the Gas Safe Register for a period of five years.

The Provider will be required to undertake a number of tasks and, in doing so, protect and inform the public of the risks of unsafe and illegal gas work, and of other dangers such as carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

The operation of the scheme will be ring-fenced from any other of The Provider's commercial and operational activities to prevent any conflict of interest on the part of The Provider.

There are currently around 80,014 gas businesses registered on the Gas Safe Register, with approximately 155,653 unique engineers, generating approximately £20m revenue per annum through registrations and notification fees.

The HSE has taken a decision to abandon this procurement. Upon reviewing the conduct of the procurement, HSE have concluded that this is appropriate due to issues relating to the published award criteria and evaluation records.

HSE envisages it will commence a new procurement process for these services and will publish a further procurement notice in due course.
