The British Bone Marrow Registry (BBMR) supports HSC Clinical Transplantation Programmes for UK and International patients. It recruits prospective stem cell donors from the blood donor population. The donors are tissue typed and they are then available to be searched by accredited Transplant Centres or laboratories acting on their behalf for patients with leukaemia and other blood disorders. The BBMR collects HSC products from donors between the ages of 18 and 60.
The BBMR require HTA licenced collection centres to provide Bone Marrow PBSC and PBL (apheresis) provision.
The service is required to be London based as collections may need to be shipped overseas, and London is the preferred transport hub for NHSBT's international customers. The Service requirements also include the provision of donor consent and counselling, medical examination and clearance, IDM testing and distribution services.
