Although there is no set structure for the courses, the provider should aim to structure it in such a way that the entire period is a unique learning, sharing and networking experience. Typically the contract is awarded on a 3+2yrs basis to a provider of the programme. New scholars are placed on these programmes every year starting around September following on from applications and selection processes conducted jointly by the provider, Chevening Secretariat and our Embassies from start of August the previous year. The last multi-year contract with the University of Oxford ended in 2020.

The course provider should be a prestigious UK higher education institution (that holds UKVI Highly Trusted Sponsor status) with an international profile and strong links with other leading world organisations and especially with India. The course provider must be able to secure access to leading authorities in the range of relevant fields and to key institutions both in UK and in Europe.
