This term contract is for underwater bridge inspections for bridges and structures across
Cumbria. The contract will comprise of an annual programme of inspections for each year of
the term contract. Inspections are both planned in advance and required at the discretion of
the Term Contract Service Manager.

two.2.4) Description of the procurement
As part of its capital works programme the Council carries out inspections and reactive
maintenance and repairs to its structures where defects occur or are identified that if left
unattended could result in structural collapse and risk to the public.
Following a programme of Level 2 Scour Assessments across the County on the higher
priority routes, a number of bridges have been identified with a Scour Risk Rating of either 1
or 2 (highest or second highest theoretical risk rating). These require regular inspections for
scour damage either until foundation depths and founding material have been proven or until
scour protection measures have been provided.
In addition, some other bridges have been included at the specific request of the Bridge
Inspection Team and these require inspections at periodic intervals generally less frequent
than annual inspections.
