Procedure
Procedure type
Direct award
Direct award justification
Extreme and unavoidable urgency
In recent months, we have experienced the loss of two fire engines due to accidents en route to operational incidents.
The two accidents have had a critical impact on our appliance numbers, highlighting the immediate need to procure replacements for these. Any further incidents will necessitate considering removing an appliance from another station or reducing our fire cover in an area. We will also experience challenges to our service and maintenance programme which will adversely affect our fleet condition.
This direct award for the procurement of two appliances will enable the service to move to a normalised operating position and to ensure we mitigate the risks of being unable to deliver a fleet provision.
