National Highways is responsible for managing the national Salt Reserve on behalf of the Department for Transport.

Under the current arrangements National Highways stores salt at Ellesmere Port, Garston, Ridham, North Killingholme and Shapness. In the event of a prolonged and severe winter this salt would be made available to Local Highway Authorities.

The subject of this procurement is the storage arrangements, stockpile management and sheeting supply/maintenance, within the North West, North East and South of England.
