Drug testing is at the heart of any good drug strategy and is well established in both custody and in the community. Testing provides Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) with a robust evidential basis to support adjudication and disciplinary processes and provides vital intelligence relating to the nature and prevalence of drug misuse. It also helps HMPPS to react quickly to emerging trends and changing patterns of drug use/misuse across the prison estate and amongst those under statutory supervision in the community. Additionally it helps to identify people with drug misuse problems, signpost them into drug treatment and help them to engage in and maintain drug free living.

The MoJ is engaging the market as part of the pre-procurement stage for the above contracts.
Following on from market engagement in May 2021, the MoJ is keen to provide a project update to interested suppliers.

MoJ is holding a Market Update Event on Monday 13th December 2021 and invites any interested suppliers to attend.
The aim of the event will be to provide an update to the market on intentions for the future service and indicative timescales.
