Northern Gas Networks are in the process of bidding to be the provider of the UK's first trial Hydrogen Village which will involve the conversion of circa 2000 homes in Northern England from Natural Gas to Hydrogen as a fuel source. The award of this project would result in the demand for approximately 2,000 - 4000 domestic hydrogen detectors. Although the technology is available for the detection of Hydrogen NGN do not believe that such a domestic detector is available on the market and as such wishes to engage with potential manufacturers of such a device. Northern Gas Networks are looking for approx. 2-4,000 Hydrogen domestic detectors/alarms to assist in the BEIS/Ofgem led Hydrogen Village Trials that will go live from mid-2024

These detection devices must be able to meet and achieve all relevant British Standards regulation and legislation currently applicable for flammable gas detection. For instance: BS EN 50194-1
The intention for these devices is to be as similar in appearance and application to smoke and carbon monoxide detectors that currently exist on the market and within the public's homes. I.e., audible alarm, flashing light alarm, etc. They must not falsely alarm with other potentially interfering vapours other than hydrogen and be simple to operate and maintain for the consumer.
Ideally the devices will be battery operated with a long-life span, >1 year. With the option to be hard wired also, having a battery additionally for mains power failure.
Low-cost solutions would be ideal though we understand the small quantities and the non-commercial demand of these domestic devices currently could hinder competitive rates.
