Scope
Description
The GEP aims to provide a national hub for professional education in genomics in the NHS. Written content is core to most, if not all, our educational resources. As such, throughout the year, we are required to produce and maintain large volumes of written content in order to reach our target audience and successfully educate and inform. In addition to the production of new content, which is necessary if we are to continue to expand our audience and reach the professional groups we are tasked with reaching, there is also a requirement to review and revise existing content to make sure that it is up-to-date and remains fit for purpose. Genomics is a rapidly developing field, with NHS England's national genomic test directory being updated several times a year. As a result, our content must be updated regularly to ensure we provide accurate educational material that the NHS workforce can trust. Genomics education is an essential element of the NHS's strategy for improving patient care, particularly around rare disease and cancer. Training needs analyses conducted by the GEP and our stakeholders demonstrate that educational interventions are needed to address identified gaps in knowledge. The GEP's in-house editorial team manage multiple educational content projects, large and small, for example: • our reference site for health professionals, GeNotes (Genomic Notes for Clinicians): https://www.genomicseducation.hee.nhs.uk/genotes/; • open online courses on FutureLearn, covering different aspects of genomics in today's NHS: https://www.futurelearn.com/search?q=genomics education programme testing; and • a range of educational resources for the specialist genomics workforce as part of the Genomics Training Academy (GTAC): https://www.genomicseducation.hee.nhs.uk/about-us/gtac/ To produce this content, a combination of specialist skills and knowledge in genomic medicine and testing in a healthcare setting, aligned specifically to government and NHS strategies, in addition to understanding of educational best practice, are essential - and not always available within NHS England at the capacity required. To address shortfalls of in-house capacity for producing genomics educational content for healthcare professionals, the GEP is seeking to secure services from a supplier to provide educational genomics content for NHS medical and/or scientific audiences.
