two.1.4) Short description

The Air Cadet Pilot Scholarship Scheme (ACPS) provides short residential courses of ground instruction and flying training in Single Engine Piston (SEP) aircraft. The scheme is open to members of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC), which comprises community cadets (Community Air Training Corps Squadrons) and Combined Cadet Force (RAF), aged 16 to 19 years of age (inclusive). ACPS instruction will be delivered at the Contractor's / Service Provider's (SP's) premises.

The aim is to safely provide SEP flying training to Solo Flying Standard for selected Air Cadets in pursuit of the primary objective of the RAFAC. The principal aim is to achieve a solo flying standard which results in either a successful solo flight (if a Class 2 CAA Medical is held) or a 'Ghosted' solo flight (if medical or other restrictions prevent).

Courses to include 12 hours flying instruction, ground schooling, 13 nights’ accommodation and meals for a maximum of 150 students per year.

It is essential that each student should finish training with a renewed enthusiasm for aviation. The staff of a SP should aim to enhance a student's keenness, particularly on those occasions when the weather is poor, by keeping them usefully, productively and appropriately occupied. Additionally, it is important for the students to develop a corporate spirit, a sense of being part of a team, as much as a feeling of personal achievement.
