A superabsorbent specifically made to slot into a garment making it a wearable Wound care and Retention system to help manage wounds in the axilla, groin, and buttocks. Superabsorbent must be able to manage at least a high level of wound exudate (Determined as at least 10 g/10cm2 via BS EN 13726- 1 2002).
Have a minimum wear time of at least 24 hours and be atraumatic to the peri wound skin on removal. Precise quantities are unknown. It is anticipated that within the first 12 months of the Framework Agreement the value of purchases will be circa £100,000 (Cost ex VAT), however this is approximate only and the values may vary depending on the requirements of those bodies purchasing under the Framework Agreement.

Explanation:
NHSSC have a mandate from DHSC to drive the availability of innovative products to the NHS. The product sourced by this contract falls within this remit as a novel innovative product, is not covered by any of the current Framework Agreements operated by NHS Supply Chain and has been identified to provide enhanced patient benefits and comfort.
This product has undergone assessment by the NHS Innovation Service which provides an accreditation pathway for suppliers to introduce innovative products to the NHS. The NHS Innovation Service is used by a number of leading healthcare bodies to support bringing innovative and unique products and services into the NHS (including NICE, NHS Health Research Authority, NHS England, MHRA, National Institute for Health Research).
In addition to this product being supported by the NHS Innovation Service, NHSSC have taken further steps to engage the market in identifying competition for this unique product, which has included publication of a PIN and RFI to inform the market of our intention to procure this product offer.
NHSSC received only one response to this engagement - the proposed supplier.
As a result of this engagement NHSSC have determined that there is currently no competitive market for this product and intend to directly award to make this product available to the NHS.
NHSSC will monitor customer interest and any new market entrants with a view to including this product within scope of the re-procurement of the Advanced Wound Care Framework Agreement.
