NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board (BNSSG ICB) is seeking to engage with potential providers to understand the position of the market for commissioning a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Pathway for Patients Presenting in General Practice.
BNSSG ICB (“The Commissioner”) is intending to commission a service for the initial assessment of people presenting at their GP practice with a suspected DVT, direct access to an ultrasound scan where indicated and initiation of treatment for those with a positive DVT by clinicians with specialist knowledge for patients registered with a Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire GP practice or classified as a temporary resident.
The service is expected to offer ultrasound and outpatient services at a minimum of 3 locations, using locations which minimise travel times for patients from across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
In 2022/23, the current BNSSG DVT service received an average of 327 referrals per month, with an average of 70 positive patients continuing on to a 1st outpatient appointment per month.

The Commissioner’s intention is for this contract to be for a period of 5 years, with the option to extend for a maximum of a further 2 years.
