This project is one of five constituent projects included in the Bangor Waterfront Redevelopment programme, to help re-establish Bangor as a thriving City and prime visitor attraction in Northern Ireland. The Bangor Waterfront Redevelopment project is a tourism led regeneration scheme which has secured funding through the Belfast Region City Deal to turn Bangor into a ‘destination of choice’, as a place to live, work, visit, study and invest, through a series of interconnected developments and experiences along Bangor Waterfront. The redeveloped facility at Pickie Fun Park will contribute to the Contracting Authority's long-term vision to ‘Seamlessly connect the waterfront to the rest of the city and, in doing so, provide a unique, wide range of opportunities for residents, visitors and businesses, inspired by a wonderful environment, public spaces, creative events and activities with attractions that speak of local stories to a global audience’. The Bangor Waterfront Outline Business Case (OBC) concluded that while the park is already a popular attraction, it has the potential to expand its offer and build upon its existing success to ensure its ongoing viability and sustainability.
