NHS Lanarkshire (NHSL) intends to commence procurement of a new laboratories managed services contract in the first half of 2024, with its current estimate being that a contract notice will be published around March 2024 and the procurement concluded by Spring 2025.

The health board’s existing laboratories managed service contract incorporates the core disciplines of biochemistry, cellular pathology, haematology and microbiology, and it’s anticipated that all of these disciplines (plus any relevant sub-disciplines) will be included in the new managed service contract being procured. The managed services are required for laboratories at NHSL’s three district general hospitals (University Hospitals Hairmyres, Monklands and Wishaw) and the value of the contract is estimated to be between 6.5 and 7.5 million GBP per annum.

The purpose of this Prior Information Notice (PIN) is to inform the market of NHSL’s intention to commence a procurement within the approximate timescale noted above, and provide a mechanism for NHSL to respond to any questions from economic operators about the forthcoming procurement in an open and transparent way via the ‘Question and Answer’ facility.

The PIN may also be used to engage with the market on specific subjects prior to the publication of a contract notice. Areas where engagement may be sought include (but are not limited to) facilitation of site visits and consultation on draft specifications and/or other procurement documents. The ‘Additional Documents’ section of the PIN will be used to communicate any market engagement activities and economic operators who have recorded interest in the PIN will receive automatic notification of such uploads via the Public Contracts Scotland website. NHSL will also endeavour to contact all economic operators who have recorded interest in the PIN to ensure they are aware of any market engagement initiatives uploaded to the PIN.
