BEIS is seeking to procure a contractor to monitor atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations for all the principal gases reported in the UK greenhouse gas emissions inventory. The data will provide independent verification of the inventory and help to identify areas for improvement. The contractor will monitor, at a minimum, the gases listed in the UNFCCC guidelines for reporting under the Paris Agreement, and in addition, CFCs and hydrogen. They will use the data to infer Northern Hemisphere background concentrations and UK emissions; geographical distributions; and where possible, disaggregation of emissions by source sector. The contractor will compare trends in the data to what is reported in the UK inventory and use the data to identify areas for improvement in the inventory.
