Building on a successful test and learn event in 2020, the Top Apprenticeship Employers rankings will celebrate some of England’s most outstanding apprenticeship employers, and will assist potential apprentices, parents and careers advisers to identify the best apprenticeship opportunities in England.
The Department for Education will publish two Top Apprenticeship Employer rankings, one recognising the Top 100 large employers (with over 250 employees), and new for 2022 the Top 50 Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The rankings recognise England’s leading apprenticeship employers for their overall commitment to employing apprentices, their creation of new apprenticeships, the diversity of their new apprentices, and the progression of their apprentices onto further apprenticeships and employment.

The purpose of this project is to:
• Provide an opportunity to showcase and celebrate apprenticeship employers, to boost employer engagement and to showcase these achievements across a wider audience including individuals, employers, parents, influencers.
• Grow and develop the prestige and public perception of apprenticeships and provide employers and individuals with a platform to showcase how apprenticeships have made a real difference to their organisations and their careers.
• Improve perceptions by demonstrating tangible support and opportunities which make a difference to people’s lives. The rankings are designed to encourage and inspire, both individuals to seek apprenticeships and employers to continuing offering high quality opportunities.
