two.2.4) Description of the procurement

NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board ("the ICB") intends to award a contract to an existing provider, British Red Cross, following a Provider Selection Regime Direct Award Process C in accordance with the criteria outlined in Regulation (9) of the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023 whilst a competitive process is undertaken.

The service provides a dedicated voluntary car driver service for eligible Service Users (and their Escorts) accessing oncology services for courses of chemotherapy or radiotherapy combined with other cancer treatments.

Scope of Services

A voluntary car service to transport eligible service users to their oncology related healthcare appointments. The service:

• Provides and manages volunteer drivers who use their own vehicles or one provided by the organisation.

• Operates between 8am and 8pm, supporting service users traveling to Musgrove Beacon Centre and Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre

• Provides support for service users and carers, this may include signposting to other relevant services including those provided by British Red Cross.

To prevent disruption to vital services, the ICB has taken the decision to directly award a 1 year with a possible extension of up to a further year to support continuity of service to The British Red Cross Society.

The estimated contract value is £209,425 per annum and will initially cover the period from 1st April 2025 to 31 March 2026.
