two.1.4) Short description

This RFI is focused on Materials System Transformation, looking at the use of Textiles, and Plastics Packaging. It will assist in understanding if there is capability, capacity, and supplier interest for this work and in what areas. Questions have been included in Appendix 1 of the RFI document. If you are interested in the opportunity, please complete and return by the date included in section 5 below. WRAP makes no obligations or undertakings in any way to: go to tender; accept any RFI information received in this process; or any other commitment to suppliers whatsoever, including any intention to form a contract with any supplier for provision of the Opportunity. As we accelerate delivery in line with our strategy, we will increasingly need access to technical expertise (in the UK and Internationally). This could be a mix of Organisations who have the networks and expertise we need to advance our programmes and Individuals who can add value to the skills, knowledge and expertise of our internal teams. We anticipate the spend to be roughly £500k-£1,000000 across both lots, with the framework contract being a maximum of 8 years.

Textiles: for textiles, the ambition is to halt the increase in the carbon and water footprint of the textiles industry and set it on a trajectory to net zero. This will require a reduction in the production and purchasing of new textiles, adoption of circular business models, the application/adoption of circular design principles, textiles to be designed for longevity and recycling, and for recycling systems to be in place.

For packaging: WRAP has the ambition for a circular economy for packaging, with a particular emphasis on materials where there are market failures that lead to material losses and increased carbon. This means that we want to change our relationship with packaging – removing it where it is unnecessary, reducing it where possible and ensuring that as much of it is recycled as possible.

The intention of this RFI is to: understand the breadth and depth of knowledge and expertise across our core focus areas, and on a global scale, explore the level of interest this RFI receives and the capacity of the market to deliver. We also want to check in with industry on our agreed approach(es) to certain challenges, i.e. new innovations or technologies we should be exploring., providing potential suppliers the opportunity to ask questions/raise queries/ help define requirements. It also gives up the opportunity to evaluate the range of capabilities, services, costs and various pricing modules available from the various suppliers that will or may be interested in this procurement opportunity. Understand the perceived risks and issues associated with the provisions of technical expertise.
