Early Supplier Engagement Notice

To note: This Notice does not signify the commencement of any competitive process and does not constitute any commitment by the Department for Education (DfE). If DfE decides to commence any competitive process(es) as contemplated by this notice, a separate notice(s) will be published at the relevant time.

DfE has previously published its commitments to careers support in the following documents; Careers strategy: making the most of everyone’s skills and talents, the Skills for jobs: lifelong learning for opportunity and growth White Paper and the Opportunity for all: Strong schools with great teachers for your child White Paper. All are available at www.gov.uk. In addition, government has recently responded to the Education Select Committee (ESC) following the inquiry into careers guidance and the committee published this document on 21 September 2023: Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance: Government response to the Committee’s Fourth Report of Session 2022–23 (parliament.uk). The response to the ESC inquiry signals the direction of travel for government policy on careers. These documents all recognise the importance of continuing to deliver and improve careers advice and guidance for young people and adults to help citizens make informed choices about their education, training and employment.

Purpose of this Notice

The purpose of this Notice is to inform the market that DfE is considering how best to support the government’s future ambition for the provision of impartial, lifelong careers advice and guidance to ensure that young people and adults receive the support they need to develop skills, progress into work or the next stage of their career and boost long-term economic prosperity.

DfE is committed to learning from and building on current delivery and to consider how this can evolve, within the context of a tight fiscal climate.

The main aim of the market engagement is to begin a conversation with the market about the future of careers advice for people of all ages, where resources are best targeted and what this could look like. A further aim of the market engagement is to gauge the interest, capability and capacity for delivery from the market and gain an insight into new or innovative ideas regarding potential delivery options for careers advice for citizens in England.
