Scope
Description
The service is aimed at supporting parents, carers, children and young people who have been identified as at risk or have experienced domestic abuse. The service will also offer targeted interventions with perpetrators to support them to make and sustain change. The service will be provided to families who are subject to Care and Support Plans through various stages of the system.
There are four elements that the service will need to provide through effective partnership working to meet identified outcomes, as follows:
Victim/ Survivor Service
Work with the whole family to promote safety planning and wellbeing, reducing the need for statutory intervention.
Skilled, person-centred interventions with a focus on risk management.
Trauma-informed, strengths-based interventions to manage and reduce risks and build upon resilience and wellbeing.
Comprehensive risk assessment, safety planning.
Support through Court proceedings and ensuring all required support is in place.
Educating victims/ survivors of domestic abuse and promoting healthy relationships, recognising warning signs and developing strategies to manage and reduce risks associated with domestic abuse.
Supporting victim/ survivor recovery and build resilience with a clear focus on the future and what comes next, in order to promote long term change and positive futures for themselves and their family.
Attendance at care and support meetings.
Increasing levels of own resilience through, for example, increasing employability and perception of confidence.
Children/Young People Service
Work with the whole family to promote safety planning and wellbeing, reducing the need for statutory intervention.
To provide support and interventions to any child/young person affected by domestic abuse.
Skilled, person-centred interventions with a focus on risk management.
Trauma-informed, strengths-based interventions to manage and reduce risks and build upon resilience and wellbeing.
Comprehensive risk assessment, safety planning
To support children and young people where child to parent violence has been identified as a concern within their family.
Supporting children/young people's recovery, rebuilding relationships with a clear focus on the future and what comes next in order to secure positive futures for themselves and their family.
Attendance at care and support meetings.
Perpetrator Service
Work with the whole family to promote safety planning and wellbeing, reducing the need for statutory intervention.
To provide focussed interventions to perpetrators of domestic abuse.
Skilled, person-centred interventions with a focus on risk management.
Strengths-based interventions to manage and reduce risks through increased insight and motivation to make necessary changes in their lives.
Comprehensive risk assessment, safety planning.
Educating perpetrators of domestic abuse, promoting healthy relationships, recognising warning signs and developing strategies to manage and reduce risks associated with domestic abuse.
Attendance at care and support meetings.
Increasing levels of own resilience through, for example, increasing employability and perception of confidence.
Staff Development
Build on the existing skills and knowledge of Torfaen Children and Family staff via training, advice and reflective practice sessions.
Share examples of good practice and learning.
