Purpose of the contract is to reimburse the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) for the advice they provide to Government, as a national laboratory owned by DESNZ. This is part of their core remit and is set out as a responsibility in our Framework Document with them. NNL are the only operator that could deliver this National Lab role and specific mix of services for Government. It is not a service we need to be delivered by anyone, but a mechanism to make sure that NNL are fairly reimbursed for the ad hoc advice work we have always asked them to deliver (and will continue to need going forwards).
