The Environment Agency seeks to appoint contractors to deliver landscape establishment and aftercare services at sites across the North East, North West and Midlands. The requirement is divided into three regional Lots with between 2 and 4 projects in each. All works are related to capital projects.

BROMFORD.

Implementation & 5 Years Establishment Aftercare.

The Bromford and Castle Vale flood risk management scheme includes a series of embankments and sections of flood walls along the River Tame corridor between Hurricane Park in Bromford, and the Castle Bromwich business park in Castle Vale, covering an approximate distance of 4 km along the river length.

- Supply and planting of 88,827 bulbs.

- Implementation and establishment aftercare of 355 heavy standard trees, including the requirement of biodegradable tree protection tubes.

- Implementation and establishment aftercare of 77m of hedgerow.

- Aftercare maintenance of 29,942m² wildflower area.

- Annual litter picking and top- up of mulch.

- Installation of 3 backless benches.

WYCHALL RESERVOIR MITIGATION PLANTING.

Implementation & 5 Years Establishment Aftercare.

As part of the mitigation, 250 No. trees will be planted at 5 No. sites within the Kings Norton (North) Ward of Birmingham.

- Provision, maintenance and temporary warning signage during site works.

- Supply, planting and establishment aftercare of 250 light standard trees.

- Supply and maintenance of tree protection accessories.

- Annual maintenance and top-up of mulch.

two.2.4) Description of the procurement

Lot contains 4 projects:

1) CLEMENTHORPE.

Implementation & 5 Years Establishment Aftercare.

The landscape works will be undertaken in Rowntree Park to the south of the scheme construction works and west of the River Ouse.

- Provision, maintenance and temporary warning signage during site works.

- Supply, planting and establishment aftercare of 15 extra heavy standard trees.

- Supply and maintenance of tree protection accessories.

- Annual maintenance and top-up of mulch.

2) HUMBER HULL FRONTAGE.

4 Years Establishment Aftercare (no Implementation).

The flood defences stretch along more than four miles (7km) of shoreline from St Andrew’s Quay Retail Park in the west to Victoria Dock Village in the east. As well as protecting homes, the work also protects major businesses in the city.

- Establishment aftercare of 126 standard trees, 2,753msq ornamental shrub planting, 4,957msq amenity grass.

- Annual litter picking and top-up of mulch.

3) BENTLEY INGS PUMPING STATION.

4.5 Years Establishment Aftercare (no Implementation).

The Landscape works are spread across the Pumping station and Areas 1, 2 and 3 are to the North East of the Pumping station adjacent to Bentley Ings and the River Don

- Establishment aftercare of 85 trees, including the maintenance of tree protection tubes; 286m of hedgerow.

- Annual maintenance and top-up of mulch.

4) TORKSEY

Implementation & 5 Years Establishment Aftercare.

The project involves mitigation planting as part of the Torksey Flood Risk Management Scheme (FRMS) based around Torksey Lock, on the River Trent. Mitigation planting will be carried out at 4 No. sites near Torksey Lock and consists mainly of tree planting.

- Cultivate, sow and initial cuts of 10,300msq grassed area (Provisional item).

- Supply and planting of 143 containerised shrubs and 573 bare root trees, including material provided by Woodland Trust.

- Establishment aftercare of trees, including the installation of tree protection tubes, and grassed areas.

- Annual maintenance and top-up of mulch.

- Install and maintain strained stock proof wire mesh fencing.

The landscape works are situated within the existing established Melbourne Park, which contains play areas, sports fields, BMX course, riverside walks, extensive tree planting and naturalised planting near the river.

- Establishment aftercare of 85 heavy standard trees, 20m of hedgerow,

- Aftercare maintenance of 7,000msq wildflower area, 10,550msq amenity grass, 6,430msq biodiversity enhancement area (all provisional items).

- Annual litter picking and top-up of mulch.

2) RICKERBY

9 Years Establishment Aftercare (no implementation)

The design of the Scheme has been considered to achieve the required level of flood protection and minimise, as far as possible, the potential impacts of the Scheme whilst respecting the views of local residents.

Establishment aftercare of:

- 38 feature trees, 576m of hedgerow, 14,914msq amenity grass, 2,090msq wildflower area, Ornamental planting

- Annual litter picking and top-up of mulch.
