Environmental crisis management covers a range of areas, including (joint) agency response to natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, wildfires and earthquakes. It also involves managing industrial accidents, pollution incidents, and other environmental emergencies.
The course will require students to receive training and education covering:
• A range of environmental crisis incidents – the characteristics, risks and response requirements.
• Understanding of training and preparation requirements for first responders involved in responding to a range of environmental crisis incidents.
• Understanding initial responsibilities, initial response tasks and establishing interagency receptions and initial coordination.
• Understanding how various incidents are controlled and how agencies must coordinate activities – particularly if specialist units are involved.
Additionally, it encompasses strategies for conservation efforts, sustainable resource management, and public awareness and education on environmental issues.
