two.1.4) Short description

UKAEA has recently awarded a contract to build the Prototype Glove Box No.1 system. This glovebox will be used to evaluate options for remote handling of nuclear and other hazardous materials. Operational trials on Glove Box No.1 will commence in early October. The findings from these trials will be used to inform the range of improvements that need to be incorporated into the second glove box system.

Detailed definition of the changes required between Glove Box No.1 and Glove Box No.2 are expected to be known by December 2023. The Representative Glove Box No.2 system needs to be delivered and installed in UKAEA’s Culham site ready for the next phase of trials due to start in August 2024.

UKAEA's preferred design of contract for Glove Box 2 is for a single contract to be awarded for the design, assembly and commissioning of Glove Box 2.

Before the design of tender is finalised, UKAEA is seeking feedback from the market on this option.

two.2.4) Description of the procurement

The services UKAEA is seeking feedback on are as follows:

To award a single contract to a supplier to develop the final technical design for Glove Box 2 system from the final technical drawings from Glove Box 1 system plus agreed changes.

A new set of detailed design drawings will need to be produced by the supplier and signed off by UKAEA. The supplier will also procure the glovebox components not supplied by UKAEA and manage the assembly through to final commission.

In summary this procurement includes the following:

1. Update the technical design information to incorporate the changes – from Concept, KOM, PDR, DDR (Detailed Design Review)).

2. Sign off by UKAEA.

3. Procure remaining components.

4. Build.

5. Assemble.

6. Installation.

7. Commissioning.

UKAEA is seeking feedback on this requirement before the tender design is finalised.
