two.1.4) Short description
NPL’s requirement is for a confocal Raman microscope to be used primarily to characterise samples relevant to electrochemical energy conversion and storage. This includes performing measurements on materials contained within in situ electrochemical cells, with optical access achieved by means of a transparent window.
Measurements will be performed for long durations (e.g. for several hours and in some cases intermittently over the course of several days), so the system must be stable enough to allow comparative measurements of these timescales. The microscope is to be located in a laboratory without access control or laser interlocks, so it is essential that the instrument is classified as a Class 1 laser product.
