The UK MOD's Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) is notifying the market of a potential forthcoming procurement to source smoke dye for the RAF Aerobatics Team.

The DE&S procurement team is based in Bristol. Dye trials are expected to be conducted at RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire.

two.2.4) Description of the procurement

DE&S is inviting industry to take part in a competition for the provision of aerobatic smoke dye to the RAF Aerobatics Team (known as the ‘Red Arrows’). The winning tenderer will be awarded a contract for the provision of dye until ~2025. It should be noted that this is a separate requirement to that mentioned in the recently published RFI [tender_282616/987224] relating to R&D of an environmentally friendly solution.

The requirement is for red and blue smoke dyes made to the specification of DefStan 68-272; there may also be a requirement for different coloured dyes. It is expected that this contract would run until 2025, with extension options in place should these be necessary.

two.2.14) Additional information

DE&S intends to run an open competition in order to source this dye, which would include submission of an Invitation to Tender and the potential need for bidders to submit dye for trials. However, DE&S reserves the right to issue a dynamic pre-qualification questionnaire if deemed necessary.
