In order to perform precautionary salting and snow clearing operations during the 2021/22 winter season it is necessary to obtain a framework of Contractors to provide additional gritter drivers.

Precautionary salting requirements are identified from the daily weather forecasts throughout the winter period. Instructions for any required action is usually received by 12:00 hrs each day although this can alter if worsening conditions are forecast.

In order to be able to respond to these instructions a standby rota of gritter drivers is compiled for all routes in each operational base over the winter period. Standby shift patterns are typically on a weekly basis as below: Please note that the same driver cannot undertake back to back am/pm stand by duties.
