two.1.4) Short description

The Oldham Green New Deal Strategy sets out the Council’s approach to tackling carbon emissions from the Council’s own estate and the borough as a whole, whilst building Oldham’s green economic sector and improving the local environment. It was the UK’s first local authority Green New Deal Strategy and sets out Oldham’s ambition to be a leading Council in Greater Manchester, nationally and internationally on the green agenda.

The Council sees a role for a strategic partnership with a private sector infrastructure provider in delivering against the Green New Deal ambition and seeks to engage with suppliers to explore what such a partnership could look like. The following document sets out the Council’s initial thoughts and invites applicants to feed back on these initial ideas and explore them further. There will be an opportunity for a round table discussion with the Council to establish the potential scope of a strategic partnership contractual arrangement.

This is a significant opportunity for a well-resourced, innovative, and ambitious private sector infrastructure provider to work with one of the UK’s most ambitious local authorities when it comes to the transformational change of strategic energy infrastructure and systems to achieve Net Zero outcomes whilst securing all the benefits of the low carbon transition for local residents and businesses.
