Alternative provision (AP) is recognised by the Department for Education (DfE) as, “…education arranged by local authorities for pupils who, because of exclusion, illness or other reasons, would not otherwise receive suitable education; education arranged by schools for pupils on a fixed period exclusion; and pupils being directed by schools to off-site provision to improve their behaviour.” (DfE 2013).

DPS Round 3 - The City of Wolverhampton Council is seeking to commission a range of AP providers which drive, support and improve students’ engagement and inclusion whilst promoting choice and delivering best value for money.

The service will consist of alternative educational provision to compliment mainstream academic / curriculum studies. The specialism and educational focus of the services offered will vary dependent on pupils’ specific needs. The expected outcomes for students/service users include reduce / eliminate permanent exclusions, reduce fixed term exclusion, re-engagement with learning, improved attendance, improved emotional health and well-being, improved academic attainment and progress and a successful pathway back to mainstream school.
