two.1.4) Short description
The Nature Markets Framework, published in March 2023, sets out the principles requiredto ensure environmental integrity while combining multiple ecosystem service revenuestreams from a single intervention r (stacking), but Defra is yet to make a decision onwhether to increase the number of circumstances where stacking is allowed in naturemarkets. There lacks a sound evidence base to inform this decision, and it is unclear whatstacking model would be most effective at delivering Defra's environmental and privatefinance ambitions as well as the effect on costs to developers within our compliance markets(biodiversity net gain and nutrient neutrality). This research is a critical enabler to deliver onDefra's commitment to provide clarity to landowners on the ability to stack credits on theirland that was set out in the Nature Markets Framework.
