Local Welfare Provision is provided in Sandwell for the purpose of assisting vulnerable people in meeting their needs for subsistence where they are unable to meet their immediate short-term needs or where they require assistance to maintain their independence within the community. This aligns to Sandwell Council’s key principals of tackling inequality and reducing poverty. A significant element of the scheme is to provide second hand furniture and household items in order to support vulnerable residents to live independently. The Council currently engages with voluntary sector organisations who deliver these items on behalf of the Council. The selected supplier is registered as a charity through the Charities Commission or equivalent.
