two.2.4) Description of the procurement
NPL is constructing 4 underground ducts, c. 800m in length and 6m below ground, between the north and south ends of its Teddington Campus. Approximately 50 fibre optic cables and 50 RF cables are required. The work will be let as a two-stage NEC4 design and build contract. During the design phase the contractor will work with NPL scientists to agree the design and specification for the Fibre Optic cables and with the tunnelling contractor to ensure that the ducts are designed to suit these high specification cables. The ducts will be constructed by NPLs tunnelling contractor and on completion the cabling contractor will install, terminate, test, and demonstrate the installation.
