Amberley Museum has recently received an award from the DCMS Museum Estate and Development Fund administered by Arts Council England to carry out essential works to the Bagging Shed, a Scheduled Monument that consists of;

• the Museum Shop and Admissions area

• an area known as the 'Railway Siding' - a timber-clad, tin-roofed entrance following the line of the original railway

• the Kiln Floor, an area in front of the 19th century No.1 Kilns

A 2022 Condition Survey of the Bagging Shed confirmed that roof and wall repairs, along with urgent stabilisation work are required in the next two years to protect the historic wooden structure and prevent collapse.

The first stage of procurement is completion of a PQQ

two.2.4) Description of the procurement

Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre are looking to appoint a suitably experienced contractor to deliver this exciting project to transform the visitor experience at the visitor attraction.

The works to be carried out as part of this project are the implementation of a range of improvements, alterations and urgently needed conservation works to the buildings.

The proposed works comprise:

• Removal of existing ramps and walkways as well as the shipping container used as exhibition space.

• Conservation repairs to existing structures, including structural alterations to provide support to existing timber frame.

• Installation of new ramps

• Installation of new glazed doors to railway siding

• Installation of new floor surfaces including embedded track through railway siding

• Improvement of insulation to gift shop

• Improvements to lighting / electrical layout
