University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is a publicly funded provider of healthcare services as a major NHS tertiary teaching hospital on the South Coast of England UHS is a Foundation Trust since 2011 and we provide services to 1.9 million people living in Southampton and South Hampshire, plus specialist services such as neurosciences, cardiac services, cancer care services and children's intensive care to more than 3.7 million people in central Southern England and the Channel Islands.

UHS is one of the largest acute teaching trusts in England with a staff of 13,000 and a turnover of more than £1bn in 2020/21 and is consistently one of the UK’s highest recruiting trusts of patients to clinical trials. The Trust is also a major centre for teaching and research in association with the University of Southampton and partners including the Medical Research Council and Wellcome Trust.

UHS is seeking a partner to deliver private patient facilities at the Southampton General Hospital. No contract is on offer at this stage. The purpose of this PIN is an early market-engagement exercise only.

Aim: To build upon UHS’s knowledge of the marketplace-offering and to provide an environment for early engagement by the Trust with potential bidders. UHS would like to hear from healthcare providers who can demonstrate relevant and tangible experience of working in partnership with UK NHS Trusts and other independent hospitals including trans-Atlantic partnerships, in delivering first class private patient healthcare over a wide range of clinical disciplines.

UHS intends to hold a series of potential bidder engagement sessions in September 2022 in Southampton, Hampshire, UK (venue to be confirmed) where potential bidders will have an opportunity to understand better the aspirations of the Trust in establishing a commercial partnership with a potential bidder to construct, operate and manage a Private Patients facility within the existing estate. These sessions will cover the following:

23/09/22 09:30-14:30 Venue TBC -Session 1 - Introduction to clinical stakeholders, understanding the needs of the Trust, understanding the different clinical areas and establishing the ability of the current marketplace.

28/09/22 11:00-14:00 Venue TBC - Session 2 - Presentation of the Trust’s feasibility study (RIBA Level 2) regarding private patient estate opportunity.

03/10/22 45 minutes via MS Teams - Session 3 - Exploring and understanding commercial models available.

18/10/22 45 minutes via MS Teams - Session 4 – Potential bidder proposals based on sessions 1 -3 and the way forward.

Sessions 1&2 are restricted to 3 people per company.

Potential bidders who wish to participate should express their interest via the Delta e-tendering portal by no later than 09/09/2022.

UHS ask potential bidders to provide a list of clinical services that they would like an overview on within the first session. UHS will collate suggestions and shape the first session to include the top 4/5 themes proposed from potential bidders
