An integrated service delivery approach in custody suites between mental health specialist staff (GMMH) and police custody healthcare staff is still required. It is expected that both services will deliver person-centred care and drive an uptake of Liaison and Diversion screening.

The future custody healthcare provider will be required to collaborate with GMMH to ensure effective referral between the two services.

There will be requirements for both providers including the following:

• an ambition to utilise a shared care record

• develop shared patient safety and quality improvement plans

• participate in a joint stakeholder operational group

• develop joint training and organisation development plans

• deliver against the health and justice priorities for trauma responsive, gender-

Following a review of the service in light of changes to the Greater Manchester health and justice landscape and in line with the provisions of the Public Contract Regulations 2015 – the decision was taken to separate the existing components of the Integrated Service and develop a new commissioning strategy which seeks wider integration of health across the justice system in Greater Manchester.

GMCA will issue a tender in Autumn 2021 for the new Police Healthcare in Custody element of the Integrated Service.
