two.2.4) Description of the procurement

Currently, much of the collection movement around the site is manual, with staff using book trolleys and bespoke roll cages to move materials between departments. Many buildings are connected with link corridors but movement to unconnected buildings is by diesel van. Also an aging paternoster, dating from the 1970s, carries material between floors in the main 8 story office and storage building. This is end of life and will be removed during the renovation works

The British Library is looking for a new solution that does not have extensive conveyors. Given the relatively low throughput, route lengths in excess of 50m, a high number of destinations and potential for changes in throughputs from an uncertain publishing future it is likely that an AGV / AMR solution will be more appropriate

The British Library is seeking information on available technologies to inform the site development plans and to enable future procurement

two.2.14) Additional information

When submitting information, all organisations should note that this is not currently a tender opportunity but is part of a market consultation exercise aiming to ensure that the procurement route selected and the options ultimately developed for any procurement are properly informed.

two.3) Estimated date of publication of contract notice

1 November 2022
