two.1.4) Short description

Electrical plant to be used on substation replacement projects needs to be temporarily stored following delivery from the manufacturer prior to installation. The requirement is for the safe and secure storage of all plant items in an undercover facility (warehouse). Storage, handling and movement of plant within the warehouse facility must meet Northern Powergrid’s safety requirements for both the equipment and staff. The warehouse facility must be secure and must as a minimum feature 24 hour CCTV, a monitored alarm system and access control.

A strict stock control system must be implemented and managed. Movement of the equipment within the unit and the loading/unloading of the equipment will be the responsibility of the warehouse facility.

Ideally two storage facilities are required, one to service the Yorkshire licence area and one to service to Northeast licence area. The facilities must be easily accessible and centrally located and ideally situated close to the A1, A19, M1 or M62 motorway corridors. Each facility must have a floor storage space of approx. 500m2 and have sufficient space for HGV’s to safety manoeuvre when delivering or picking up plant items. The plant must be stored such that access to all items is possible without the need to manoeuvre items; this is required to gain access for inspection and testing purposes. Some of the electrical plant items will contain oil, hence adequate precautions must be in place to prevent any environmental contamination. The facility must, as a minimum, have spill kits and temporary bunds available at all times and all staff must be adequately trained to deal with oil spillage/leaks.
