The SPEAR system has been developed to utilise natural reactions and convert them into a tactical application of defence. It incorporates fear management training, de-escalation drills (detect, defuse and defend) with awareness training enabling staff to recognise pre-contact cues of assault, Primary Initial Attacks (PIA) and Secondary Initial Attacks (SIA). It is designed to help staff recognise and competently deal with violent situations, assaults and incidents.
