Extra Care Housing is a form of housing with care and support that allows people generally aged 55 and over to live independently within a supportive setting. It includes care and support that is person centred and flexible, so the support is varied dependent on need and it can also be flexed to increase or decrease support so that an individual is appropriately supported. In some instances, this could involve changing the level of care and support available daily. The flexibility can help prevent both hospital and/ or residential care admissions and can also support someone to be effectively discharged from hospital. Residents are individually assessed and may be asked to contribute towards the service. The amount an individual pays depends on available income and capital.
