Description
There is a need to mitigate areas of deficit in the Hampshire region up to a 1:200 year drought event, in accordance with WRMP19 / WRMP24 and a Section 20 Agreement and to provide daily resilient water resource transfers. ALM aims to connect Winchester and Andover via a new potable water pipeline providing both drought and operational resilience. Its delivery contributes to the protection of fragile ecosystems around the rivers Test and Itchen.
To facilitate this, a water supply system between resource zones, i.e. Hampshire Southampton East, Hampshire Winchester and Hampshire Andover, referred to as the Andover Link Main (ALM) is proposed as an investment by Southern Water, which would include the following components;
1 - Olivers Battery WBS MEICA upgrade
2 - New Crab Wood WSR to Micheldever Road WSR pipeline (~22km @ DN500)
3 -Cross connection to Micheldever Road WSR and associated pipework including new inlets and flow control valve arrangement
4 - New Micheldever Road WSR to River Way WSW pipeline (~2.9km @ DN400)
5 - River Way WSW installation of a new WBS

Southern Water have developed the scheme proposal to early outline design and are planning to complete this phase of work which would be provided within the tender documentation should Southern Water take the project to open market, comprising a detailed design and construction package, with enabling work to be completed prior to construction. This will also include support to discharge planning conditions and submission of certain environmental consent and permits.
