The Home Office are leading a cross government programme of activities which seeks to replace caesium-137 irradiators used in biological and biomedical research facilities within the UK, where a viable alternative technology or solution exists.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) with Nuclear Transport Solutions (NTS) acting as their agent has been instructed by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to establish and support the collection of existing Sealed Radioactive Source (SRS) through a suitable disposal route.

The NDA Group have been tasked with enabling a disposal route for these sources into Sellafield. Note, Sellafield is the current waste management route for sealed sources.

NTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of the NDA which has extensive and proven expertise in irradiated fuel management and transporting nuclear materials.

two.2.4) Description of the procurement

The provisions for services to collect, transport and process existing Sealed Radioactive Sources (SRS) using a pre-determined disposal route. Proposed Duration of this Framework will be 7 year plus option to extend by 1+1 year (9 year). The NDA will appoint up to 2 suppliers provided they pass the Standard Selection Questionnaire, Security and Quality thresholds which will be set in the ITT. Please see attachment for further scope of works information.

The NDA shall host an engagement event on 10am – 1pm Thursday 15th Sept 2022 to register please email nicki.brown@nda.gov.uk & madeline.jones@nda.gov.uk. Please type in the header "Pre Market SRS". This supplier event will be via a Microsoft teams conference. Maximum of 2 staff per supplier.

This requirement maybe undertaken under works or services which will depend on solutions proposed.
