IWC require an asset register to meet the statutory requirements for the council, as a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) under Section 21 of the Flood and Water Management Act (2010). Section 21 of the Act states that:
A Lead Local Flood Authority must establish and maintain:
• a register of structures or features which, in the opinion of the authority, are likely to have a significant effect on a flood risk in its area, and
• a record of information about each of those structures or features, including information about ownership and state of repair.
A risk based approach will be taken to identify structures or features for inclusion within the LLFA, including identification of which features the LLFA considers to have a significant impact on flood risk in its area
