The council is already invested in Microsoft technologies and further investment to their technology stack will:

Provide a recognisable skillset to aid future recruitments

Provide reusable services across Business Units

Position the council’s digital capabilities at the forefront of transformation activity

The contract produced for signature is equivalent to a GCloud contract.

Microsoft are already suppliers of the council’s productivity suite (through Office 365) and cloud compute presence through Azure. The Digital Strategy outlines an aspiration to consolidate suppliers making best use of large scale providers and their ability to offer many different elements of functionality under one contract. Microsoft also have substantial delivery capability via their Industry Solutions Division, who already work with multiple other local councils. The direct award is designed to take advantage of Microsoft’s knowledge of their own software suite and large scale implementation capability.

Explanation:

A search using appropriate keywords on the GCloud 13 CCS Framework only produced Microsoft as a potential supplier.

Utilising Microsoft products fits to the strategic direction, and allows rationalisation of other products.

The contract produced for signature is equivalent to a GCloud contract.
