The Department for Education (DfE) is undertaking a competitive grant process to appoint an organisation to design and lead the delivery of a Music Progression Fund programme to support disadvantaged children and young people within 4-6 delivery areas across England.
The overall objective of the Music Progression Fund programme is to gather and share important evidence regarding the types of support and interventions that work most effectively in supporting disadvantaged children and young people to learn an instrument/s or to sing to a high standard over a sustained period.
Progression may be measured by pupils obtaining at least one ‘grade’ per year, evidenced through a graded examination (any Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music awarding organisation). Through testing and refining a number of interventions, the most successful strategies would then be promoted to schools in partnership with Music Hubs and other partners in the music education sector.
