This includes Individuals staying in North Northamptonshire hospitals, and those residing at Five Wells Prison. The Service is completely independent from the Council

Independent advocacy enables Individuals to have as much control as possible over their own lives. Independent advocates are completely neutral and impartial from the Council and Health and Social Care services. This helps to prevent a possible conflict of interest, which is particularly relevant for Individuals that require an advocate. The independent advocate does not make any direct decisions for the person they are supporting; instead, they provide them with all the necessary information so that they can make an informed decision themselves. If the Individual does not have the mental capacity to make an informed decision, then it is possible for an independent advocate to speak on their behalf. As a result, the independent advocate is an important spokesperson for the Individual, advising them on their rights and making sure their wishes are carried out (where possible)
