two.1.4) Short description
NGN has identified conversion of the gas network, to distribute hydrogen in place of natural gas, as a long-term solution to help decarbonise heat and contribute to achieving the UK Net Zero targets. Existing research projects have largely focused on demonstrating the network safety and practicality aspects of Hydrogen conversion, however, there is limited understanding of the whole life cost of embedding the hydrogen supply chain to make this a reality.
NGN requires support in the delivery of this Net Zero Cost Pathway Research Project. The project will establish a consortium of relevant key partners and advisors from across the energy sector and wider stakeholder community to work together in achieving a well-evidenced outcome that is both transparent, non-biased and impactful. The project will deliver holistic and robust outputs through a complex and comprehensive whole-systems value chain modelling effort.
