Nature and extent of the modifications (with indication of possible earlier changes to the contract):
The modification to the contract is required to enable the upgrade in Network Access Service circuit capacity at 7 digital hub and corporate sites from their current 1GB NAS bearer bandwidth capacity to 10GB, and at a further 154 DWP sites there is a requirement to increase their current bandwidth capacity from 100MB to 1GB.
seven.2.2) Reasons for modification
Need for additional works, services or supplies by the original contractor/concessionaire.
Description of the economic or technical reasons and the inconvenience or duplication of cost preventing a change of contractor:
DWP signed the Network Access Service (NAS) contract with BT on 26 March 2021. At this time NAS circuit bandwidth capacity requirements were specified to allow for some future demand growth however it became apparent that NAS circuit capacity at DWP digital hubs and a number of other sites needed be increased further to support additional demand for network services across DWP digital and the wider DWP business. Maintaining the technical requirement with BT is in line with contract scope and contracted delivery, allowing for economies of scale and mitigation of duplication of costs should DWP have changed Supplier.
