These schemes include the UK Resettlement Scheme (UKRS), Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (VCRS) and Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP). This may also include future government schemes that require case support and integration of individuals and families. Since 2016 Reading Borough Council has been supporting the Government’s Resettlement programmes: initially, by committing to offer homes and support to 3 families a year through the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement (renamed UK Resettlement Schemes, UKRS) and since September 2021 offering homes and support to families resettled through the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS).In line with its aim to safeguard and protect those who are vulnerable and provide homes for those in need, Reading Borough Council has renewed its commitment to support vulnerable refugees in need of protection. To date, the Council has resettled 10 families/55 individuals through the UK Resettlement Scheme and 15 families through the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme.Reading Borough Council has committed to continue receiving 2 to 3 families each year for 5 years.
