Provision of an Integrated Community Equipment and Wheelchair Service for Somerset (CEWS).

Somerset County Council and Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group are jointly seeking to hear from organisations that might be interested in delivering an Integrated Community Equipment and Wheelchairs service for the people of Somerset with a real focus on improving people’s lives through promoting their independence and working much more collaboratively across statutory services to ensure that they get the best possible help, when they need it.

The aim of this service will be to enable Adults, Children, Young People (CYP) and/or their Carers to access a range of equipment, including wheelchairs according to assessed need. A fundamental principle of the service is to promote and enable these individuals to continue living independently and in their own homes, communities, and schools, including those wishing to access these services independently of the Commissioners.

As part of this process Somerset County Council and Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group would like to hear views from a range of market providers about the future options and is inviting organisations to feedback on the following:

Somerset has declared a Climate Emergency. Climate emergency (somerset.gov.uk). In response we have set an ambitious target of being a carbon neutral county by 2030 and intend to commission the Community Equipment and Wheelchair service in line with this ambition. To help develop our thinking and planning for the new service we would appreciate it if you could complete the following questionnaire by Tuesday 17th August via the message section of this opportunity.

Responses will be treated as confidential and all information provided will be used to inform and shape future options to help us recommission the service.

1. Does your organisation currently have a sustainability policy that defines your commitment towards ethical, environmentally-friendly and carbon reduction practices? If so please highlight the key areas this covers

2. Decarbonising transport is a vital element in meeting our ambitious climate change targets of being carbon neutral by 2030 and we aim to achieve this well in advance of the 2030 target. What do you see as the implications of achieving this within the CEWS Contract?

3. The optimal approach would be eliminating carbon production across all elements of the service, substituting, reducing or compensating where this is not possible. Where do you feel the biggest opportunities and biggest challenges are for this contract?

Thank you.
